Find A New Vantage Point
Jasper rises from one of San Francisco’s 7 original hills offering sweeping views of Downtown, SoMa, the Bay Bridge + San Francisco Bay through floor to ceiling glass. The 40-story building, which sits almost at the crest of Rincon Hill, makes a serious impact on the surrounding skyline considering the fact that Rincon Hill is approximately 100 feet (30 m) tall.
Head for the hills, take in the views and do a little exploring. 7×7 Magazine shares ‘What to do on SF’s 7 Original Hills’, including our very own Rincon Hill. If you live or work downtown, Rincon Hill is full of Privately Owned Public Open Spaces (POPOS) to explore. On weekdays, grab a handcrafted sandwich from The Sentinel and hang out inside the 101 Second Street Atrium, a space that’s part greenhouse, part art gallery, featuring a two-story bronze statue and free Wi-Fi from a nearby coffee shop.
Rincon Hill is a compact district of San Francisco tucked between SoMa and the Embarcadero. The neighborhood is bounded by Folsom Street to the north, the Embarcadero to the east, Bryant Street on the south, and Essex Street to the west. Located just south of the Transbay development area, part of the greater South of Market area, the landscape is dotted with cranes in the sky soon to bring fresh amenities, convenience and new neighbors. Did you know? The word “Rincon” means “inside corner” in Spanish. Before the 1860’s the area surrounding Rincon Center was a cove that extended to what is now First Street. Rincon is the name that was given to the hill at the inside corner of the cove.
