Cin Cin!
Get your bubbly ready for a toast this season at some local spots where you can sip and explore the nuances of sparkling wine. Below you’ll find some places around town that serve and sell quality Champagne and other similar wines from around the world.
RN74. Taking its name from the highway, Route Nationale 74, which runs directly through the Burgundy region of France, Michael Mina’s RN74 is a wine-centric French inspired restaurant. RN74’s wine program focuses heavily on the greatest producers and regions of Burgundy. However, the champagne selection is incredible with more than 60 labels on the list.
1760. Do you know about Grower Champagne Mondays? Well, your Mondays are about to get more interesting, because while 1760 has at least 10 Champagnes on the list under $100, you can also get 20% off all bottles of Champagne on Mondays. Look for special flights and producer pours too.
Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant. Located in the historic Ferry Building, the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant & Wine Bar offers the most interesting and delicious wines from smaller producers around the world. Check out their Wednesday tastings from 4:30–7:30pm, which feature a variety of international wines, or try a taste off the wine bar list, which typically features three sparklers from which to choose.
Les Clos. Whether you want bubbles by the glass or need a bottle to give as a special gift, you’re set. They also sell some fabulous champers accouterments (like, say, caviar) at a very nice price. There are sommelier-guided weekly wine tastings on Saturdays from 3:30-5pm. $10-$25 gets you samples of 3 wines. Every week has a theme!
San Francisco Champagne Society. This reservation only Champagne lounge is for the bona fide Champagne lover. You’ll learn a lot about small producers, and you can also purchase any favorites, too. Get on the mailing list for updates on Friday happy hour tastings. Space is limited so you must email to purchase your ticket in advance to fill your flute with bubbles.
Top of the Mark. Soak in spectacular breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline from the InterContinental Mark Hopkins’ amazing rooftop lounge while you sip your bubbly during the Sunday Champagne Brunch beginning at 10am.
Arlequin Wine Merchant. Arlequin Wine Merchant is a specialty wine store featuring an extensive selection of premium wines from around the world. You can enjoy a bottle at Absinthe, Comstock Saloon, Arlequin Cafe or Boxing Room and then buy a bottle (or a case) to take home with you.
Ruby Wine Merchant. Looking for some new unique bubbles to try? Ruby features an ever changing selection of biodynamic, natural, and organic wines created by mostly small producers from Europe and California. They offer a daily selection of wines for tasting or by the glass and feature a different winemaker or importer each week for a Friday Night Flight from 5-9pm.
